Overview
The Green is a residential development in the heart of Southall, delivering modern apartment living as part of the area’s wider regeneration.
The project required a fully coordinated sprinkler system that could be seamlessly integrated into a live residential design without impacting layout, aesthetics, or programme.
Nationwide Sprinklers were appointed to deliver the design, supply and installation of a compliant system, working closely with the project team to ensure a practical and efficient solution from the outset.
The Solution
We designed and installed a full BS 9251 compliant sprinkler system, providing protection throughout:
- All residential apartments
- Communal corridors and circulation spaces
- Ancillary areas including bin stores and plant rooms
The system incorporated approximately 96 sprinkler heads, with layouts carefully coordinated against reflected ceiling plans to avoid clashes with lighting, services, and architectural features.
Water Supply Strategy
The system is supplied via the Building Cold Water Service (BCWS), allowing the sprinklers to operate from a shared water supply rather than a dedicated tank.
This approach allowed us to:
- Optimise available plant space
- Reduce infrastructure requirements
- Deliver a more efficient overall system
Careful consideration was given to flow, pressure and system priority to ensure full compliance and performance in the event of activation.
Design & Coordination
A key part of this project was delivering a clean, achievable design that worked in the real world.
We focused on:
- Accurate head spacing to suit apartment layouts
- Coordination with ceilings, lighting and services
- Minimising visual impact within residential spaces
- Maintaining compliance without over-designing the system
Early coordination with the wider design team ensured a smooth transition from design through to installation.
The Outcome
The result is a fully compliant residential sprinkler system that integrates seamlessly into the building while meeting all life safety requirements.
By utilising the BCWS supply and applying practical design principles, we delivered a solution that is efficient, coordinated and cost-effective without compromising on performance.
Summary
The Green is a strong example of how the right approach to sprinkler design can simplify a project.
Through early engagement and close coordination, we delivered a system that works exactly as it should — compliant, efficient and designed for real-world installation.
